Recently I’ve been talking a lot about setting goals, and how to get yourself on the right path towards reaching your health and fitness goals. Now I want to talk about what to do when you’ve been working towards your goals but aren’t seeing results. You’ve hit a plateau.. Now what?
Plateaus can happen to you regardless of how “on track” you’ve been. When in the same routine for a while, your body can adjust. (Because our bodies are legit so amazing. And economical.) So here are my tips to break through your plateau!
My first tip is to switch up when you workout or add in a quick session each day. This is one of the easiest ways to shake things up and get your results moving again. If you are currently working out three times per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, try working out on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday instead.
If you’re up for it – add an extra morning session at home. A quick 15min HIIT blast is all you need. By switching up when you workout, your body won’t be expecting it at the same exact time as it is now, and it can speed up your results.
My next tip is to change what you are actually doing during your workout. Many people get into the groove with a certain workout circuit, and just go back and forth between the same couple of workouts every week. Instead, try a variety of different workout classes. Push yourself harder. Changing up what you actually do or putting in 100% instead of coasting through, then you workout will keep your body guessing, which will help you power through a plateau.
My final tip is to make sure you have a lot of variety in your meals throughout the day! This one may be one of the most important. Even if you are eating healthy, if they are the same foods every day, your body may be lacking in nutrients. Different foods have different micro nutrients which your body needs in order to function at it’s best, and fuel your workouts! It is important to eat well, but to have a variety of nutrient-dense foods as well.
To overcome a plateau, you need to keep your body guessing. Get out of your comfort zone and reap the rewards! Use these tips to help you crush your goals.
