Boxing sure is a fun way to get your sweat on, but is it actually good when you are wanting to lose weight?
Answer: It definitely is!
The foundation of boxing is that your body is in a constant state of motion. Between all of the jabs, hooks, and kicks, boxing torches a ton of calories! The constant motion revs up your heart rate and kickstarts your metabolism, which are both critical to weight loss.
The number of calories burnt per boxing workout varies depending on the style of boxing, your fitness level, your weight, and the level of intensity, however, you can expect to burn anywhere between 300 to a massive 800 calories per workout! (That’s a bucket load!!) So yes, boxing is a great workout to help you burn fat and also blast through your weight loss goals. .
Apart from helping you reach your weight loss goals, boxing also is a great way to relieve stress and increase your confidence. (This stops you from wanting to kick your co-workers in the teeth). And as your boxing skills improve, it will carry over into every area of your life. You become stronger, more confident in your body and really start to LOVE your body. It truly can help you transform your life in more ways than just fitness – it did exactly that for me.
To maximize your results, it’s important especially with boxing to give your body adequate rest time as well. Be sure that you are giving 100% in your workouts, and also giving your body the rest it needs. Taking a strength class, a yoga class and a rest day each week will help avoid injury, and allow your body to recover so you can continue to give your boxing workouts everything you’ve got!
So what do you think? Did it surprise you to learn how many calories you can really burn with a boxing workout? How many boxing sessions are you going to schedule for the coming week?
