5 Easy Ways to Rev Up Your Metabolism!
Everyone hear about metabolism and how you can have a fast one or a slow one, right? But do you know where it is in your body? Can you point to it? Well, no. Metabolism is a completely normal bodily process that converts what you eat and drink into energy. It can speed up or slow down based on loads of different things, but here are 5 easy ways to speed up your metabolism…
- Eat healthy fats
So many people are under the false assumption that all fat is BAD. This makes sense, when you consider how many products claim that they are “fat-free” in today’s society. But all fat is not created equal, and your body actually needs good fats to function at it’s best! Try adding healthy fats into your regular diet like avocados, olive oil, coconut oil, flax seed and even olives.
- Drink 2-3 litres of water every day
Yes you read that right! It’s no secret that our bodies are made up of like 80% water (crazy I know), and most people don’t drink anywhere near enough to stay hydrated throughout the day, or aren’t drinking the right things. Want to only make one change for the rest of your days? Drink 2 – 3L of only water or herbal tea. Try it for 7 days and you will see fantastic changes in your hair, skin and even on your waistline.
- Eat small meals every 3-4 hours
Eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day lets your body know that food is plentiful, so it can burn the energy rather than storing it as fat for times of need later. Waiting hours upon hours in between meals can create havoc on your metabolism, and trick your body into thinking that you are going into starvation mode which will slow your metabolism down! So eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day and have snacks on the ready.
- Avoid diets
There are hundreds of diets out there, all promising you the next big weight loss secret. But there is no secret!! Restricting yourself from food groups or to tiny amounts will result in your metabolism slowing down, because, again, your body will believe you are going into starvation mode. Rather than trying out different diets, look at the similarities they all have.. What are they? Drink more water, eat more vegetables right? Stick to these basics and you can’t go wrong. Eating healthy is a lifestyle choice, not a diet.
- Get 8 hours of sleep every night
Sleep is easy to forget about when you are going through your busy day to day lifestyle. When it’s time to wind down, it’s very easy to move to the bedroom to scroll through the entire of instagram before bed (sorry, just me?). However putting your phone away and getting good quality sleep at night will help your body perform at its best throughout the day. Your body has to work even harder to function from lack of sleep, so make sure to get 8 hours per night to allow your body to speed up your metabolism!
